Alternate Timeline

Alternate timelines are created when a decision is made (or an event occurs) that is different than an event that happens in the original timeline.

There are numerous alternate timelines, as countless as there are decisions to be made.

The textbook example of an alternate timeline is the Mirror Universe in Star Trek. In the Mirror Universe, humanity in general is more ruthless and aggressive, resulting in changes throughout modern history. Some alternate timelines are entirely self contained, such as the past and future events in TNG's All Good Things, or Voyager's encounter with the Krenim in the Year of Hell.

Alternate timelines are not unique to Star Trek, and are used throughout fantasy, comics, and sci-fi.

All events in MU take place an an alternate timeline.
