Canonical Timeline

A canonical timeline is an official series of events in a fictional work.

Each series has its own rules as to what is canon and what is not canon. In Star Trek, only TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, and the movies are considered canon. TAS is not currently considered canon. The fifth movie is not considered canon by many fans. No books or comics are considered canon by the show's creators, but most fans consider them as an adequate substitution for canon events until disproved. This can be compared to Star Wars. Any creation of Lucasfilm is considered canon until disproved or retconned, including books, comics, games, and more.

Fan-made stories and characters, such as those in MU, are never canon.
