History

The MRV Aquila was one of UEP's most advanced scientific vessels, emerging as a replacement for its predecessor, the Oberth-class, during the late 2360s. Designed as a science and scout vessel, the Aquila was used for short-term planetary research and analysis after a region had been surveyed by larger explorer-type vessels. It was not designed for long-range tactical missions.

How the ship got its name

Aquila was one of the 48 constellations described by Ptolemy in Ancient Greece. It is also mentioned by Eudoxus in the 4th century BC and Aratus in the 3rd century BC. Its name is Latin for 'eagle' and it is commonly represented as such.
