Is any other information needed to understand how this character developed due to events in his or her universe of origin? In the Mandaran system, there is a single ruler who is destined to become the leader from birth. All resources are poured into the development of that ruler so that he or she is vastly educated and worldly wise at the attainment of age 18, when they assume the throne. The Marinens do not normally use a corporeal body, existing as energy beings. However, they can assume other forms at will, at certain costs. While they are near indestructible in their energy forms, when they take another form, they may succumb to any disease or death that would befall any other of that kind.

Backstory
Tamarisk was the very essence of a pampered princess as she grew through her minor years. She received the best schooling in academics and also was pushed to achieve highly in the arts, very similar to the medieval princesses on old Terra. She received many opportunities, and her Princes Regent watched over her at first with great attention to their duty, but as she neared the age of Ascension, they began to resent the concept of giving up the power they had held in her name.
As she reached her late teen years, she was urged, as many of her kind were, to travel about the galaxy to experience other cultures. It was believed that by becoming a true player in a civilization for a time, one would better understand the theory of mind others might have, which would aid in future trade negotiations.
Tamarisk, in human form, came to MU just after the casino of Lando Calrissian became established. She studied under the MU teachers, met members of varied species, as anticipated.She gathered information and was prepared to return home to assume her throne. What she hadn't counted on was meeting hotshot wunderkind Brad Colbert, no older than she, who was Lando's right-hand man, in charge of the entire financial operation of the casino.
Brad had been very careful to keep his personal connections to a minimum, almost obsessively focusing on his work, and his intended accumulation of wealth. After his father had gambled away so much of their family's money, and left them poverty-stricken, he was determined he'd never be that way again.
But the delicate princess, even in her human disguise, caught his eye. He rescued her when assassins sent by the Princes Regent came for her, and hid her away safely in his home. They fell in love almost instantly. He opened himself for the first time to intimacy with another, and they soon found the princess was pregnant. This would have been a serious enough transgression in itself, but once the baby was conceived, Tamarisk found she could not leave her human form. When her people came to take her home, she could not convert to the state of energy being. This threw the succession all to bits, because there was no other who could step into her shoes. Only one heir to the throne rose with each generation.
They took her back by force, but she managed to arrange Brad's transport as well. After a major political struggle, Brad Colbert negotiated her release from the royal command, setting up an alternate power structure to be shared by the major players who'd remained behind. He brought Tamarisk home to MU, and she gave birth here to their daughter, Cara. Cara has abilities of both humans and Marinens, and Tamarisk has taught her in the way she was taught, to be a superior and gifted young lady when she grows up.
