Backstory
Arrived at MU station approximately five years ago. Left for a time to work for Taggart but returned with JR when he was disassembled.
Grew up in a single parent home in the barrio for the most part. Never knew her father, although did form parental relationships with several of her mother’s boyfriends, one in particular who was a cop. She’d left home at 16 when her mother died and was on her own.
Has a string of failed relationships with males since the age of 13 when the partner ended up injured or dead, often due to Valery’s own impulsive behavior and anger management issues. While she can be thoughtful and provide insight, she has a quick Latin temper that pushes her easily. Most significant is the death of Andy “Weasel” Johnson, to whom Valery was married at 17. Johnson was nearly 25, involved in some shady businesses that Valery was not aware of, but which gave them a very comfortable lifestyle.
Unfortunately she walked in on a transaction unannounced and one of Johnson’s cohorts tried to kill her. She returned fire but wounded her husband, who subsequently died. She stood trial for that shooting but was eventually acquitted. Because she was a minor at the time, the records were sealed. She moved to a whole new sector and started over,remaining alone for nearly six months before coming to MU.
She’s worked at a string of jobs, usually having to move on because she’s burned bridges somehow.
Since she's been at MU, she's entered into a communal living arrangement with Garrett Rawls and Jayna/Jayden. They live aboard Garrett's ship the Six-Shooter. She has had an ongoing relationship with Garrett's mother and birth father Blaine Regan, having several adventures with them, and has also worked with Themes Rogers and the crew of the Doubtful back on Earth.
She's also served some time in the Space Marines, having run off to join up when she was ticked off at Garrett and Jayna once. She nearly died, but was rescued finally by her family, including IG-76 who loves a chick who loves guns.
